Alaskan Adventure

Our 3 weeks in Alaska were FANTASTIC!

The scenery was breathtaking & we had a really good time.

Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, Anchorage, Ak

After a 26hour flight from Singapore, my trip started in Vancouver, Canada, where I spent 2 nights at the HI-Vancouver Central Hostel, http://www.hihostels.ca/PM/en/vancouverhostel_central.aspx?sortcode=2.4.

The hostel was great, somewhat more like a hotel but with all the perks that a hostel has to offer.

I flew to Anchorage, Alaska to meet Mark, and the adventure began :) We took a few days to wind down and relax and saw a few of the local sites.

Only god knows how, but one afternoon Mark managed to convince me that it'd be a great idea to rent bikes for the afternoon. We proceeded to ride 23 MILES (not kilometers!) around the coastal trail, http://www.dnr.state.ak.us/parks/aktrails/ats/anc/knowlsct.htm, which took us from downtown, out past the International Airport & back into the city.

As you can see form the photo it was a really pretty ride but I tell you I was sore for DAYS! Not something I'll repeat in a hurry, lol.

We easily got used to the 20 odd hours of daylight, although it was a bit strange to be walking out of a pub or restaurant at 10 or 11 at night & it's still light. It messes with you a little but the hotel we stayed at had great black out curtains, so we managed to sleep with no problems.

After winding down for a few days we rented a car and made our way slowly down to Homer. The drive was lovely. So many mountains & beautiful scenery to look at on the way.
